High Peak’s winning performances at second Derbyshire mini-league Cross Country race at Chesterfield
Despite the snow in Buxton, conditions at the second Derbyshire mini-league cross country race at Tupton Hall School, Chesterfield on Saturday 25th November were much sunnier, with warming performances from all the High Peak AC athletes who participated. There were race wins in the under 15 girls race for Sosseh Badjie and in under 11 girls race for Alice Tolley. They both have two wins out of two in the Derby mini-league series and head the individual league table for their age group going into the last race of the series in two weeks time. Also in the under 11 girls race Hannah Dunkin put 100% effort in despite not feeling 100%, to come in a very encouraging 11th place.
In the under 11 boys race there was yet again a fantastic turn out from High Peak, with really good performances from all the athletes: first HPAC athlete in was Xavier Morgan in 6th place, with the fast improving Josh Edlin in 8th place, followed by Samuel McGill in 11th, and Jed Burton in his first XC race coming in a very good 15th place. Xavier sits in 4th place overall after two races, so a real chance of grabbing a top 3 finish going into the last race in the series. The boys under 11 team also sit comfortably in second place in the team competition behind Derby Athletics Club, whilst the girls under 11 team are also lying second behind Amber Valley and Erewash Athletics Club.
Finally, two very good performances from the two under 13 boys competing for HPAC. William Stanway was a commendable 3rd place, and Gregor McGill performed solidly to come in 11th in a tough and fast race. William is sitting nicely in 3rd place in the individual under 13 boys league table.
With each race the HPAC athletes seem to be further improving – Well done everyone!
Next up on Saturday 2nd December HPAC are back in action at the 3rd North Midlands XC league competition at Shipley Park, Heanor, and the following week (Saturday 9th December) is the finale of the Derby mini-league XC at Derby Moorways where HPAC are in with a real chance of individual and team medal position finishes.
