High Peak Athletic Club was very well represented at Derbyshire Schools Cross Country Championships held at Moorways Stadium, Derby last Saturday.

All the athletes ran very strongly and showed great resilience considering it was a freezing cold morning.

Sosseh Badje underlined her potential with a suberb bronze medal in the junior girls (Years 8&9) race. Sosseh made her way towards the front of the race very early on and showed great determination to remain in 3rd place for most of the race. She has now qualified for the Derbyshire team to run in the English Schools championships in Norwich in March. In the same race, Megan Harris-Wood ran strongly on the second lap to finish in 13th place. Cheyenne Wright finished in 55th place.
William Stanway is an exciting prospect as he finished 8th in the year 7 boys race, this being only his second competitive cross country race, closely followed by Gregor McGill who had one of his best races of the season in 14th place.
In the year 7 girls race, the always reliable Jamie Lee Taylor finished in a commendable 22nd place and Annabel Fletcher was 49th.
Finally, Charlotte Sweetmore, in her first season of cross country, ran doggedly to finish in 28th place in the senior girls championships.
As a very successful cross country season is drawing to a close for another winter, athletes are busy training for the upcoming Sportshall Regional Finals, to be held on 4th February at Grantham, in which High Peak AC have had 14 of their athletes selected to represent Derbyshire.
