High Peak AC took a team to the North Midlands Cross Country league event at Shipley Park in Heanor on Saturday 3rd December. It was muddy and a hilly terrain.
First up were the U11 girls who had to run 1.7km. Alice Tolley had a phenomenal race with a burst of determination which led her to first place early in the race which she retained throughout, completing the course in 6 mins 43 secs, recording her first win in the league. She now stands in second place in the U11’s league table with one race in the series to go, just two points behind the leader Poppy Adkin of Saffron AC who came 5th on Saturday. It is set up for an exciting finale.
Xavier Morgan ran for the U11 boys who also had to run 1.7km. He showed a lot of perseverance in a strong field – trying his best, he ended up in 24th place.
Gregor Mcgill, U13’s boys and Sasha Scrag, U15’s girls, ran in the same race which was over a challenging 3.4km distance. A lot of hard work took Gregor into 25th in the boys race and Sasha into 30th in the girls. Even though the longer distance isn’t Sasha’s preferred events, she still participates and puts in a great effort for the team in every cross country race.
A big well done to the youngsters of HPAC who once again showed great effort and team spirit. The final race in the North Midlands Cross Country series is at Wollaton Park in Nottingham on 14th January, 2017, a week after the Derby Championships at the same venue.
